Week 5 Materials & Resources
Tuesday's Materials & Homework
Class exchange at the Multicultural Center.
As requested, we will practice summary skills on Thursday. In order to do so, please read this short article, look up any words you do not know, and be ready to discuss it in groups on Thursday.
I have uploaded the discrimination facts that we discussed last week.
NOTE: These are not cited and statistics may have changed since the articles were published. DO NOT count on these as being 100% factual, they are simply to help you start brainstorming. When you do find something you are interested in, you are responsible for finding sources to use in your paper. We will start talking about HOW to evaluate sources next week.
Homework:
Due Thursday 2/13
Read the following article. Be ready to discuss it when class begins on Thursday.

Thursday's Materials & Homework
Summary practice.
The photo below is one of the mind maps we discussed for the Gender & Academic Achievement article. If this type of mind mapping helps you, please feel free to practice it with the article for Research Writing. Remember, once you have mapped out your ideas from an article, you can go step by step explaining the main points to write your summary. Don't forget about organization & cohesion. Everything you write about needs to relate back to the topic of the article you are summarizing.
